OFA Application for Elbow or Hip.

Be aware of the OFA database, it can be very misleading.

  1. In order for more breeders to be willing to voluntary submit Radiographs (x-ray) to the OFA, the OFA added this section (highlighted) on the application; which means, the breeder can keep cheating, even when they have abnormal dogs.

  2. This middle section on the OFA application (by default) works like a guarantee exclusion of sick dogs from the open data base. An insurance for the owner breeder not to list his failing abnormal dog in the open database.

  3. If you don't initial this section, you protect your dog from going public on the open database in case they find it abnormal. Meaning, by default, only normal dogs are shown on the open database. And therefore, the abnormal dogs are screened out from the open database.

  4. Therefore the OFA open database (where you see each dog record) may give you false presentation. In other words, you will never know how many sick offspring there are. Also! if a record is incomplete, you should assume it was opted out due to abnormal elbow.
